谷雨的英文名为“Grain Rain”。其中grain有谷物、粮食之意，rain为雨水。
此外谷雨也称为“第六节气”，英文名为“6th solar term”，6th 即sixth，译为第六；solar term是固定词组，译为节气。偶尔也有人把节气翻译为“solar period”，因为period和term都有时期之意。
Grain Rain originated from the ancient version "rain germinates all grains". The term “Grain Rain”originated from a folk story. When Cang Jie, an official from the Yellow Emperor period, created writing characters, grain came down from sky like rainfall. Therefore, the Yellow Emperor named this day as the “Grain Rain”.

When this day comes, the amount of rainfall increases more than that on the day of “The Rain”, which is very important for the growth of the crops.
