Shang Shu (The Book of History) is a collection of the historical literature of ancient China.
《尚书》是一部我国上古历史资料的汇编。
Shang means the ancient time,
“尚”乃远古之意，
Shu means the history written on the bamboo slips,
“书”指记于竹简之上的历史，
and Shang Shu means the historical book of ancient China,
而《尚书》即是中国古代的历史书，
mainly recording sayings of the governors in the Shang (17th century ~ 11th century BC) and the Zhou (11th century ~ 256BC) dynasties.
它主要记载了商和周时期的告令.
This book survived the books burning move and the war between Chu and Han because Fu Sheng,
《尚书》在经历了焚书坑儒，楚汉之争后仍能得以保存当归功于伏生。
the court academician of the Qin Dynasty (221 ~206BC)，
伏生本是秦博士，
hid it in walls.
他将《书》藏在了自家的墙壁中，
Fu Sheng compiled 29 pieces from the remnants.
后又对残存的二十九篇进行了编撰。
Shang Shu was spread in the Western Han Dynasty (206BC ~ 8AD) with some efforts from his students and became the official textbook.
在其学生的努力下，《尚书》在西汉时流传开来，并成为官方教材。
As the books were written in Li Sim (official script), which was popular in the Han Dynasty( 206BC~220AD),
那吋的 《书》是用隶书撰写而成，
it was called Jin Wen Shang Shu (The Book of History Written in Modern Script).
故又被称为《今文尚书》。
In the mid Western Han Dynasty, several versions of the pre-Qin were discovered,
西汉中期，人们发现了先秦时的《尚书》版本，
and they were called Gu Wen Shang Shu (The Book of History Written in Ancient Script).
便称之为《古文尚书》，
From then on, a dispute on the Jin Wen (Modern Script) and Gu Wen ( Ancient Script) lasted nearly 2, 000 years in the academic circle of ancient China.
此后《今文尚书》和《古文尚书》之争在中国古代学术界持续了两千多年。
