The Marriage of Fuxi and Nuwa
伏羲兄妹成婚
This is another myth of the origin of man.
这是人类起源的另一个传说。
There are two versions, different in form but similar in spirit.
这个传说有两个版本，形式不同但本质相似。
After a big flood there were only two people left in the world, Fuxi and Nuwa.
一场洪水过后，世界上只剩下两个人，伏羲和女娲。
They were brother and sister.
他们是一对兄妹。
To carry on human blood they had no choice but to marry.
为了延续人类的血脉，他们别无他法只能结婚。
But neither dared to think of it.
但是两个人都没敢自己作决定。
To obtain the approval of Heaven， they climbed up to the holy mountain named Kunlun， the residence of Heaven on earth.
为了获得上天的同意，他们爬上了昆仑山，也就是天上的神仙在地上的住所。
They buift two fires and prayed.
他们升起两团伙并祈祷。
“If Heaven let us survive to be husband and wife, may the smoke join. If not, the smoke will go in different ways. ”
“如果上天同意我们结为夫妻，那就让烟雾燃烧起来吧。如果不同意，就不会有烟雾。”
In no time the smoke did join，they obeyed the decree of Heaven.
很快，烟雾就燃起来了，他们遵循了上天的旨意。
Nuwa went up to Fuxi, who took her in his arms.
女娲爬到了伏羲的身上，伏羲将她抱在怀里。
Thus they got married and became ancestors of man.
后来，他们就结婚了，成为了人类的祖先。
Another slightly different version goes like this.
另一个稍有不同的版本是这样说的。
Only Fuxi and Nuwa survived the terrible flood that almost destroyed the world.
只有女娲和伏羲是那场几乎毁灭了地球的洪水的幸存者。
To continue human lineage, they were somehow compelled to marry.
为了延续人类的血统，他们只能被迫结婚。
But they were too ashamed of the idea.
但是他们对于这个办法非常羞愧。
To avoid embarrassment they decided to play a game of chase around a big tree.
为了减少尴尬，他们决定玩一个绕着大树追逐的游戏。
Thus Fuxi ran after his sister, but couldn't catch her because of the size of the tree.
伏羲追着他的妹妹跑，但是因为大树，他不能捉住她。
After repeated failures an idea struck him.
好几次失败后，伏羲想到了一个方法。
He turned around and ran the other way.
他掉过头来，朝反方向跑。
Nuwa fell in his arms.
女娲跑进了他的怀里。
That was the will of Heaven.
那就是上天的期望。
They married and mankind survived the flood in this way.
他们结婚了，人类也得以存活下来。
