In the Qin Dynasty, in the vicinity of the Great Wall lived a family Meng and a family Jiang, who were next-door neighbors.
秦朝时，在长城附近，有孟、姜两户人家隔墙而居。
The Meng family once plant a melon seeding but its vine stretched over to their neighbor Jiang and bore a melon.
孟家种了一棵瓜，瓜身顺着墙爬到姜家结了瓜。
When it was ripe, it was spened. In it was a little girl.
瓜熟了，打开一看，里面有个小姑娘，
The two families named her Lady Meng-Jiang.
两家人就给她起名叫孟姜女。
She grew to be as beautiful as a heavenly maiden.
孟姜女长大了 ，貌若天仙。
One late afternoon, Meng Jiang was attending to the flowers in her parents, garden when she was startled by a young man.
一天下午，她在园中侍弄花草，却被一个小伙子吓了一跳。
He told Meng Jiang that he was Wan Xiliang and escaped from the First Emperors draft as a laborer to build his walls.
他告诉孟姜女他叫范喜良，是为躲避修长城的劳役逃出来的，
By now, he had been exhausted from fatigue and hunger.
现在又累又饿，筋疲力尽。
The Meng and Jiang family invited him to stay with them.
于是，孟、姜两家便将他留了下来，
Eventually, the well-educated and mannered young man and the dexterous pretty young woman fell in love with each other.
知书达理、 举止大方的范喜良和聪明美丽的孟姜女相爱了。
Her elderly parents were only too glad that their beloved daughter had found a good bridegroom and had them happily married.
父母见心爱的女儿找到了如意郎君，很是高兴，便为他们操办婚事。
However，there was a villain in the village that had been coveting the beauty of Meng Jiang all along and became so jealous of her marriage that he went to the local authorities.
村中有个恶霸对孟姜女的美色垂涎已久，听说她的婚事.不禁妒火中烧，便跑去官府告密。
On the day of their wedding, Wan Xiliang was caught and sent to the Great Wall construction site in the far north.
结婚那天，范喜良就被抓了，送去北方修长城。
Lady Meng Jiang waited day and night for her newly-wed husband to return.
孟姜女日夜盼望自己新婚的丈夫早日回家。
Summer came and went and so did fall.
春去秋来，
Not a word was heard from Xiliang.
却没有范喜良的丝毫音信。
She decided to look for him.
孟姜女决定去找范喜良。
After untold sufferings she finally came to the construction site,
历经千辛万苦，她终于来到了修长城的地方。
but she learned that Xiliang had died of hard work and been buried in the wall.
但是有人告诉她范喜良已死，尸首被埋在了长城里。
This tragic news sent Lady Meng Jiang into a stupor.
听到这一噩耗，孟姜女立刻昏了过去。
As she gained conscious, sorrow began to eat into her heart, tears running unchecked.
醒来时，不禁满心悲愤，泪如泉涌，她嚎啕大哭。
She started to weep and then to wail. For three days she wept and wailed at the foot of the Great Wall when all of a sudden a miraculous event happened ：
孟姜女在长城边痛哭了三天，突然奇迹发生了，
a section of the wall, broke loose and collapsed with a big bang,
随着一声巨响，一段长城崩塌了，
revealing countless white bones,
瓦砾中露出了无数白骨，
including that of her husbands amidst the debris of dirt and stones.
范喜良的尸骸就在其中。
