The production of Chinese pottery started in the Shang Dynasty and matured considerably in the Eastern Han Dynasties. This long period was the inception period of pottery，and the pottery in that period was called the “primitive pottery”. Both pottery and bronze were produced under high temperatures. “Ceramics and castings” used to be a combined term.
